Oh dear

ADVISORY - CORONATION CUP
Tomorrow's Coronation Cup is ABANDONED due to an adverse forecast.
Commenting on the decision, Race Officer Toby Marshall said, "I know this decision will disappoint a number of crews who would like to give it a go, but balancing their enthusiasm against increased risk of damage to boats or (heaven forbid) injury to personnel, as Principal Race Officer I would prefer to err on the side of caution."
The Race Officer intends to review the situation in the morning, in case the forecast eases overnight, and will update this page if there is a hope of running it.

If it's anything slightly sea-borne that you want, the Fishermans Co-op on King Edwards Wharf is the place to go. Hats, coats, waterproofs, boots, pain, bobbins and submarines are all available. Although I do believe the submarines are of stock at the moment. Sorry and all that. Go along and look at their extensive stock anyway.

Sgoth "Jubilee"

The sun was shining and despite the chill wind a gang were out doing what needs to be done on Sgoth Jubilee. She'll be ready for the lug sail challenge in the Sail Stornoway Festival

Saturday 16 April 2016

Skiffs, Sgoths and Schooners

There's boats getting ready for the season and particularly the Sail Stornoway Festival all round the place. Newly repainted Skiffs in the boat-shed. A Sgoth there too along with another [Jubilee] on the harbourside awaiting a coat of paint stuff. There are more in the marina too. Sgoth mad here I can tell you. There'll be a chance to have a sail in one at the Sail Stornoway Festival in July.

And schooners. Ok, so this below isn't a schooner but yacht hasn't the alliteration possibility of schooner. But I'm sure you get the idea. With lift in day not too far away, peeps are out playing with their bottoms to make them ready for the water.
Does that make sense?

Put the Sail Stornoway Festival July 13 - 17 in your diary for 2016.

Saturday 26 March 2016

July 13th Ceilidh

After the Parade of Boats in the outer harbour comes the Ceilidh in D'Anglers or as most know it, the Sea Angling Club. Run by Falmadair, it's a chance to catch up with old friends, have a wee drinkie and listen to some - yet to be confirmed - music.

Falmadair is heavily involved in the restoration and sailing of the old traditional boats of the Outer Hebrides. They maintain and sail the lovely Jubilee, Broadbay and an Sulaire sgoths.

You might be even thinking about tactics for the Coronation Cup later in the week. Either way, it'll be a fine evening.
Times and costs to be confirmed.

There's a lovely report from the 1902 Coronation Cup you might like to read here.

Parade of boats - July 13th

To start the week of festivities at Sail Stornoway this year there will be a Parade of Boats. Yes, boats not just sail - rowing boats too. If you are here on July 13th then get out in your boat and enjoy the pleasure of being on the water with others.

Bound to be sunshine again so you can show off your boat, admire others' boats and generally have a fine old time.

Times of the Parade will be available closer to the event.

Monday 14 March 2016
